ACHIEVEMENTS OF HSSRD

Organized first four-day seminar on national level in November 5-8, 2001, in which scholars from different institutions of Pakistan participated and presented their papers.
-
Organized the 2nd five days National seminar on Science –Religion Interaction in October 21-25, 2002.The second national seminar was held in the beautiful city of Hazara Division, Mansehra. The main theme of the conference was “Science – Religion Interaction”.

As a result of efforts of HSSRD, ten course proposals ( 7 in English and 3 in Urdu) were submitted to CTNS for 2002 Science –Religion Award Program;

Launched HSSRD website www.hssrd.org in June 2002.

HSSRD has also started its bi-annual journal, Science – Religion Dialogue in which papers presented in the seminars are published. These articles are also available on the website.

To enhance the science - religion interaction among the students of different disciplines of colleges & universities we arranged an All Pakistan Essay Award Competition (announced through the important local and national dailies of Pakistan. Two topics were selected for the competition:

Darwinism and Islam: Conflict or Conversation.

Announced All Pakistan Essay award competition in Urdu/Arabic for the students of religious Madrassas (Schools) to inculcate tolerance and engage them in meaningful dialogue between religion and science and among different religions. In response to our announcement we received a large number of essays/research articles; selected essays were awarded prizes during the 2nd National seminar.

We have been arranging fortnightly meetings to discuss different aspects of science and religion. In each meeting, we give a special topic for discussion. Twenty meetings are held in this year (upto October 2002).

Two courses were offered under HSSRD at degree and master level, one by the chairperson of HSSRD Islam and Science on Evolution and Creation in spring 2002, in which 50-60 students of bachelor and master level participated & the other by Prof. Faheem Ashraf on Big Bang & the Islamic perspective on the creation of Universe in Fall 2002.

As a part of our program, we also arranged two trips/study tour , two-day tour/visit to the central library of Quid-e-Azam University, Islamabad and National Institute of Psychology, Islamabad and the other of the Northern areas of Pakistan due to the historical, cultural & religious importance of the area.

In the year 2002 the chairperson of HSSRD has been awarded presidential award as a result of his outstanding position in all Pakistan essay competition on Ideal education system in the light of Prophet’s Teachings. At that time the society (HSSRD) was introduced by Pakistan TV all over Pakistan and abroad. It is a great honor for HSSRD.

Initially our membership was restricted to Hazara Division, but after first National Seminar, our society was introduced all over the country, & now scholars from all parts of Pakistan are showing interest to join HSSRD as members. Consequently, our membership has increased from initial 21 to above 60

The second issue of the journal is in your hand to which Urdu section has also been added; The first issue included only English articles.
