Man is only a puny part of the vast and complex whole. Enormity of the whole overawed him. But his persistent endeavors, through the millennia, to comprehend the vast universe, bestow special significance on man. From gazing longingly at and wondering about the moon to landing on the moon – fabulous has been the odyssey of physical conquest of the Universe. And it is on. But man wondered then and wonders now about the purpose of the whole ‘know thyself’ uttered the wise Greek. Efforts had been going on even before him and have been ceaseless. Marching millions found it inexplicable then and millions find it to this day. Jibran voices the feelings: “never have I been mute but when someone asked who are you”? Religion – spiritual interpretation – offers hope. Prophet of Islam provided the key “one who comes to know himself, comes to know God”. Let us march on the journey of self-discovery and exploration of the whole and be optimistic. O Man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord – painfully toiling,– but thou shalt meet him.
